Why you may prefer my services over a "studio"...or the next guy

For the longest time the only way to get you or your child's pictures done, unless taking the photos yourself, was to take them at a mall or studio. If that is still the look you prefer then I encourage you to go there! Pictures are better than none!

With that said...here is why I think you'd prefer my work...

-I have a very flexible schedule that can work around yours
-I will not charge a fee for reserving a session
-I will not charge a fee for canceling a session
-I come to you as I am an "on location" photographer (home, park and more...)
(weddings have separate payment guidelines.)
-I shoot with an emphasis on artistic angles (very non-traditional)
-I "post-process" your images with creative tones

-I pose my subjects very little because it seems to take away from the "feel" of the photos. Posing too much can cause my subjects to 1) be uncomfortable 2) hold their breaths 3) cause them to not act like themselves. Each of those things can lessen the personality of the photos and can make the results less genuine. My efforts are to capture my subjects as they are. I try to stop that point in time so that the memory frozen in the photos...are as much about them and as little about me as possible.

-(For children) Photographing them in their element brings their personality out in ways that are less likely to happen in a studio. Children are comfortable in relaxed surroundings like their own home or a park. I photograph them by following them around and keeping a slight distance as to not interfere with their "comfort zone," which can result in the changing of their demeanor.

(If it were my engagements, wedding, children...I would want photos that told the story. But that's just me :)

-I over deliver. I price competitively with studios but one of the biggest differences between me and "the other guys" is the product you receive from me. You will not pay 200.00+ for 20 similar photos. From each session I choose the best photos and try to give you a good variation as well. Your photos are taken with care, chosen with care, "edited" with care.

I enjoy the company of my clients and feel very blessed by the ones who become repeat business, who friend me on facebook and who stay in touch. My work is very much an extension of myself. By hiring me you are not hiring a businesswoman but a person who takes much pride in the whole process of working with you from beginning to end.

Other good stuff...

PAYMENT: I now accept payment through Paypal. For those of you who prefer not to pay by cash or check may make a payment with a credit card through the ease and security of Paypal. Please email me for info.

CO-SHOOTS: As funds are tough in the economy right now, and having a new baby can be quite pricey I have a couple different options. If you have a friend or family member who also has a baby/child and they would like photos done, I am offering the ability to photograph both children in the same photo session and will provide a separate dvd of each child that will be mailed to each address. I will only charge 10.00 extra to the shoot to cover materials and postage. By doing a co-shoot the parents have the option to split the cost making it more affordable! (A "co-shoot" is for two children only in a single session but each additional child to a co-shoot is $50.00, so more little ones are welcome.

PACKAGE PRICES: If you know you would like photos taken starting with maternity or newborn portraits, I offer a discounted price if you would like to purchase a package of sessions (maternity, newborn, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 1 year). Please inquire for this pricing.

If you have further questions, please email me and I will be happy to answer. Your questions could possibly help another and could end up in a future post!

Tips for baby/toddler/child photography sessions with me!

As summer wraps and fall begins it is prime time for great baby portraits! Go away muggy weather!!! Can't wait to see the lovely fall with its colors and more gracious temperatures!

I thought I would offer a few tips, advice and things to keep in mind if you are considering a baby/child photo session.

BLANKETS: Some of the most useful items for this type of shoot are blankets with great colors or patterns. (My personal choice in colors are earth tones or pale chalky colors for babies!) One of my recent clients had a comforter with a really neat vintage flower patten and just laid a sheet underneath it while we set up on the grass out front. For the babies that are too young to sit up straight, a good colored or patterned blanket can really make the shoot wonderful because it is the "background" we are depending on.

BACKGROUND: When the babies are old enough to sit up, more photos are taken on their level looking straight at them and the location we are at is the background versus the floor the baby is on. If you know you would like the session done within your home, think of a good place in the home where the natural light is best. I am more than happy to give my advice to this when I arrive if you don't feel confident in making this decision. Rooms with good window light are great. Sometimes a clean plain wall is perfect! The less noisy the background the better.

If you would like to go "on location" for our session, parks work well. You can scope out the parks in your area and pick your favorite or ask me and I'll look into it for you! Toddlers and children on park swings and playsets are adorable!

OUTFITS: My next recommendation is for when the babies are super cute and tiny, the best photos seem to be when they are diaper only. A new baby is so precious and new that having diaper only photos seem to be the favorites. With this said, outfits are absolutely welcome and will allow for a few different looks during the single session, but the "unclothed" new baby is so sweet! As the babies get older and have more defined personalities the different outfits seem to suit them better! SPECIAL NOTE: I highly recommend color coordinating the child's outfit with the blanket(s) that will be used. Clashing colors can make for less flattering results.

PROPS: Examples would be knit hats, baskets, basins, vintage/retro toys etc. These things can be items you already have around your home or something you may find when you're out shopping. All are welcome.

I hope this helps a bit in preparing for a photo session with your child! I am offering this as a helpful guide because I care about YOUR style, opinion, preferences, needs. Everyone is different and by giving you a heads up ahead of time, I can better deliver the type of photos you may want! If you do not have a preference on some or all of these factors then I am more than happy to just "do my thing." Regardless I will deliver to you my best.

Feel free to friend me on facebook or follow my facebook photography page as well. If we are friends I can tag you in your photos so they show up on your page. If you follow my official page you can keep up with my work and promotions. Both will be listed on this blog as well!

I know I have a combo of names going on right now being newly married. The name change process is in the works! Thanks for the understanding!
